Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc set the pace on a drying Monza track in the Finish of an incident-filled opening practice session to the GP weekend
After an overnight storm and morning rainfall, F1’s fastest circuit was reduced on traction during the 90 minutes of running and drivers found the going really ambitious.
Sergio Perez crashed his twitch Point, Kimi Raikkonen beached his Alfa Romeo, also drivers spun or conducted wide.
The circuit dried and in the final minutes drivers were eventually able to utilize slick tyres, shuffling the timesheet.
Nevertheless, it was F1’s newest race winner – and the weekend’s most favorite for the race win – that topped the charts, together with Leclerc’s final lap taking him into a best lap of 1:27.905.

Lando Norris and mcLaren pair Carlos Sainz finished second and third respectively.
World championship leader Lewis Hamilton was with Alex Albon the Red Bull in fifth.
Drivers are caught by tricky Monza outside
Raikkonen year’s polesitter using Ferrari, was the primary driver as he put the power down into his Alfa Romeo in an attempt to exit the Parabolica, Monza’s fast and long corner to spin in the gravel.
After a red flag to recover the Finn’s automobile, a different one was caused by Racing Point’s Perez when he struck the obstacles departing the Ascari chicane.
“We had the red flag so I had been in the time of heating up the tyres, which were cold,” Perez told Sky F1. “It is tough to find grip on this tyre, but maybe not a great deal of drivers have dropped.
“It is always quite hard on the market, the grip is pretty low.”
